about

This is the title track of the album.
A story of travel, unplanned, but possibly predestined.
This unusual traveling bird reproduces in the wild and wonderful land of Scotland and is known to fly away from the island in direction of the Americas.
The bird is carrying a key, and bears a look of enduring determination.
Despite leaving upon its odyssey, the bird leaves something precious at home, and even if it only occasionally returns to its nesting ground, it will always be tied to that magical land.
The Bird is a symbol of freedom: the freedom of exploring the world, singing its unique song and spreading love through music and good cheer.
The key is a symbol of safekeeping and protection: you only lock away things that are important and precious.
Despite having its freedom, there is a visceral, animal urge to remember its roots and find its way back to its homeland.
The title track speaks to this: "though different stars may guide my way tonight, I hope they'll lead me to you someday".

lyrics

A different flag
© Duncan McLauchlan 2019

1. I’ve crossed the oceans, for many a year,
Seen many sights, between my homeland and here.
But every now and then, I get a nagging fear,
I might never get to see you again.

2.
I’ve travelled round, and I have tales to tell
I’ve sampled heaven and I’ve made my own hell,
I’ve combed the beaches, for fruit of, ocean swells
Praying, they would take me to you someday

Chorus.
I’m, living under a different flag
it’s not my banner these strange winds fly,
though different stars may guide my way tonight,
I hope they lead me to you someday.

3.
I’ve climbed the mountains, with their rock so bare,
I’ve breathed the purest and the sweetest air,
And in their valleys, I’ve taken shelter there,
From the wildest of their fierce winter storms.

4.
In different countries and in different towns,
The countless roads, that I have traveled down,
You think they’d meet, because this world is round,
But it seems they all go different ways.

Chorus

4.
Some walk before me, some others have run,
To hear the beat of a different drum,
But they can’t forget, the home from where they have come,
No matter how far, they might go.

Chorus x 2
+ I hope they’ll lead me to you someday x 3
